It’s Time to Cancel Rent

With the Rent Debt Grace period that prevented evictions for rent debt accrued from the beginning of the 2020 shutdowns through and the end of the state eviction moratorium June 30, 2022 and the state’s rent assistance portal indefinitely sunsetting in the coming days, Tenant Protections are loosening. CAT’s fighting for a number of key bills that will help protect renters until the next legislative session in 2023.

Take Action Now

Send a letter to your legislator telling them that we need stability in and beyond the pandemic.

We want to raise up the voices and stories of renters from around the state, so you can personalize the letter by including your own story about why you need Oregon to #CancelTheRent, and get more information about how you can join CAT tenant leaders' work.

What are Tenants Facing?

A new study released by the Community Alliance of Tenants and Portland State University reveals increased levels of housing insecurity among Oregon renters due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the need for immediate legislative action. The findings point to an escalating problem with tenants accruing a growing amount of back rent they are unable to pay and that risks a wave of evictions when the current moratorium expires July 2021.
