Become a Member

Membership is the driving force behind everything that CAT does. As your Oregon's Tenant Rights organization, together we are building a movement for housing justice that impacts 1.5 million renters across the state. There are two options to become a member of CAT paying dues or volunteer as a ‘working’ member; both are equally valuable. Come join us in the movement for Housing Justice!

You make the difference!

Power Membership (Oregon Tenants)

What does it mean to be a Tenant Power member with CAT? Membership with CAT lasts for a calendar year from the date you sign up. CAT is able to provide the services you need because of your support and the support of members like you:

  • New! Live Hotline Hours for Members: Call in to speak with a Tenant Education Specialist directly during our new weekly live hotline hours.

  • Come to our annual membership meetings to vote on leadership and help guide us: CAT Tenant Power members vote annually on CAT's (majority tenant) Board of Directors.

  • Get valuable hands-on leadership training and education.

  • Share your experiences at the local and state governments to strengthen our rights.

  • Receive priority call-backs on our hotline: CAT's Renters' Rights Hotline gets hundreds of calls a day. CAT Tenant Power members who call our Renters Hotline go directly to the front of the line to get called back first.

  • Vote on CAT's legislative agenda - deciding what to prioritize as we work to put more tenant protections and opportunities into Oregon Tenant/Landlord Law and state, regional and local policies and ordinances and budgeting decisions.

  • Participate in Membership Focus Groups to advise the organization in program development, legislative content, community engagement, and other elements of importance to CAT's success and future.

  • Vote on CAT's 3 year Strategic Plan which is created from member feedback and contributions at all CAT events and in all our programs.

  • Be a part of building a statewide movement for Housing Justice in Oregon!

 Volunteer with CAT

Activate your tenant power, make an impact in your community and help CAT!

The Community Alliance of Tenants (CAT) runs the only renters’ rights hotline in Oregon. As you can imagine, we get many calls from people in need of our help and we need YOU to help us connect Oregon renters to tenant education, advocacy and organizing!

CAT is looking for dedicated, passionate volunteers! There are so many different ways you can engage with CAT – from supporting the renters’ rights hotline to data entry to doorknocking, phonebanking and event support! Do you have a special skill? Speak another language? Let us connect you to great opportunities to impact your community! Reminder, your volunteer hours can count towards your CAT Membership too!

The Landlord Pledge

Are you the one we’ve been looking for? The landlord who stands in solidarity with their tenants?

Right now, renters across Oregon are struggling to keep their homes amidst no-cause evictions and extreme rent hikes. Over and over again, we hear the same message: who can we trust? Where do we go from here?

You might be the perfect next step for a family in need. You have a home and vow to never use a no-cause eviction or a steep rent hike (over 5% a year) to turn a family out of their home.

Our tenants are looking for you, every day. You can take the Landlord Pledge and be listed as a trusted place to stay on our soon-to-be-launched Safe Landlord Search. You will receive a welcome packet, complete with a sticker you can put in your leasing office or property to let folks know you are on board.
